Custard Design Process

We draw inspiration from the lives of our founders, our team, and you lot - the Custard Crew!

We always start from the fit upwards, so designing the cuts and patterns first and then focusing on the graphic design process. This ensures that even in a Custard blank, it will always be a true Original and only available at Custard Shop.

Designed to be Lived In, Memories Made, and Worn Again and Again.

Phase 1

Taking Inspiration

This part of the design process simply comes from living. Every day, place, and person is different and inspiration can be drawn from each.

Focus here: Colours, Shapes, Fonts, Experiences, Fun!

Phase 2

Sketch and Development

We then sketch out the ideas (usually the final design taking a few goes), until we're happy with the first draft. This might involve mixing and matching inspo and ideas to get the finished design.

Some designs can be finalised in days, others we might come back to after months or years.

Focus Here: Fit to Brand, speaks the experience/inspo, great to look at.

Phase 3

Sample & Final Delivery

We sample each design to ensure the graphic contrasts well with the fit and category of the item. Some may take 2 or 3 samples to get right and to ensure that we're happy with the final product. Some designs may be parked and used for a different product than originally thought.

These items are then lived-in, and the design cycle starts again!

Focus here: Looks great when wearing, stands out, Fits with the initial inspo, Made to be lived in.
